LAST FAREWELL POLICY

1. Early notification of the death of a classmate is imperative. If and when you hear of the death of a classmate, please let Jim Walsh 301-582-0495 or Sandy Beach 281-362-8184 know as soon as possible. If the information is CONFIRMED, you may send it directly to the class on our semi-official net which will inform most of the Class.
2. It is also important that someone quickly volunteer to be the POC for the deceased. We assume this will be a close friend of the classmate and his family. Early identification of this individual is also imperative. Contact our Treasurer Art Griffin 703-743-5678 concerning reimbursement of expenses.

4. Memorial Flag Box Program -- Arrangements have been made with the National Capital Flag Company to provide a flag box in a timely manner to the designated POC. Each box will have 2 brass plaques -- one engraved "Well done, Be thou at Peace". The second will have the full name of the decedent followed by "USMA Class of 1959". Jim Walsh or Sandy Beach will contact Albert Ulmer, Jr. President National Capital Flag Co. Tel: 1-800-368-3524 and arrange for the shipment of the flag case or give him the name of the POC who will then be authorized and designated to contact NFC to arrange mode of shipping and provide necessary information -- Name of deceased classmate, shipping address, etc.
   

Following is a brief summary of the provisions of the Last Farewell Policy:

1. We want as many classmates as possible to be present at the funeral or post-funeral gathering of deceased classmates.
2. As soon as notification of the death of a classmate is received, some class mate, close geographically or by relationship should volunteer to be the POC to help make arrangements and assist the widow and/or family. He will also arrange for the shipment of the Memorial Flag Box as described above.
3. At a military funeral, with the approval of the deceased family and funeral detail, it is desired that a member of the class, perhaps the POC, or other classmate, on behalf of the class, hand the American flag to the widow, present her with the Memorial Flag Box, and express our collective condolences to the deceased family. In the case a classmate does not have a military funeral, the Memorial Flag Box will have an American flag already contained in it when presented to the family.
4. When possible, a post-funeral reception will be arranged to allow the opportunity for classmates to meet with and communicate with the family of the deceased.
5. The POC will also insure that appropriate donations are made on behalf of the deceased from the Class. The Class Committee has approved the Treasurer of the Class to guarantee to cover the cost of the flag case and other donations up to $500.00. The Letter of Agreement (LOA) with NFC specifies that the invoice for the flag case be sent to the Class Treasurer who will pay from our class fund. All other expenses are the financial obligation of the POC who is expected to assume responsibility and pay with personal credit card or cash and submit receipts to the Treasurer for reimbursement.
